A spiritual practice
At the heart of Subud lies a practice that centers around developing a direct and inner connection with the divine. This connection is deeply personal, and we believe that each individual receives precisely what is right for them. For one person, it could perhaps manifest as a form of worship, an intimate communion with God or Allah. Meanwhile, another, who may not adhere to a specific faith, might experience profound insight into the great life force that permeates our universe. The reality that we experience and share goes beyond the different words that we may each use to describe the divine.
What sets Subud apart is that it offers this spiritual journey without teachings, classes, or formal study. Inner peace and personal guidance arise purely from this ‘religious experience,’ which we call the ‘latihan’ – a term derived from the Indonesian word for “spiritual training.” This lack of a doctrine means anyone can, without fear of contradicting their personal faith or religious teachings, find a home within our diverse and supportive community.

Subud Britain
In Britain, we have an active community with groups scattered across the country, from Cornwall to Perth in the Scottish Highlands. These local groups typically meet 2 to 3 times a week. In addition to this, we host frequent regional gatherings that are a blend of spirituality and socializing.
Once a year, we extend an invitation to all our members, along with their family and friends, for the Subud Britain National Congress. This significant annual event spans several days and offers a multitude of experiences. It is an occasion to explore our spirituality in depth, engage in meaningful discussions, or simply enjoy late-night conversations with fellow Subud members from across Britain and around the world.
